Forum appoints new chairman

Peterborough City Centre Forum Ltd has welcomed Ms Jean Lowe to the prestigious position of its Chairman. Jean Lowe is the Manager of Boots the Chemist in the Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough, looking after the affairs of Boot's largest branch in the city.

A professional pharmacist as well as manager, she has been a Director of the Forum for the past year. Boots has been a national supporter of Town Centre Management initiatives and was a founder member of Peterborough City Centre Forum Ltd.

Jean Lowe - new chairman of the City Centre Forum

The Forum - which co-ordinates the interests of the City Council, local businesses and other organisations - aims to attract more visitors to Peterborough city centre by improving the range of leisure and shopping activities that are available.

Jean Lowe was appointed Chairman at the Forum's Board meeting held on 5th July 2001, the first one following the Forum's AGM. Jean said, "I am very honoured to be invited to Chair the City Centre Forum. I am aware that the Forum has achieved much good work, and I sincerely hope that this success will be continued long into the future. There are a number of excellent opportunities for Peterborough in the future. The challenge ahead for us all is to continue to make significant improvements to Peterborough's City Centre for the increased enjoyment of everyone that uses it."

Bob Hogg of the Chamber of Commerce, is retiring after three years as the Forum's Chairman. He said, "I have very much enjoyed my time as Chairman of the Forum. I was able to help the Forum establish a funding base, move from an association to a company limited by guarantee, employ staff and really begin to make a significant difference to the quality of Peterborough's city centre. My business interests mean I now spend less time in the City than I used to and hence my decision to step down. However I will continue to represent the interests of small businesses on the Forum's Board and so I still intend to take an active part in ensuring Jean has all the support she needs in continuing to develop and promote Peterborough. I am sure she will be a great success."
