Positively Peterborough

Late nights and early mornings at Markets Car Park

Good news for city centre clubbers as the Council meets local business' requests! The recent opening of a leisure complex of bars, nightclubs and a brand new bowling alley in New Road, Peterborough has led to surrounding street being clogged up with revellers' cars. Following a top level meeting with City Council officers and local leisure businesses, the Council have extended the opening hours of the Markets Car Park.

Sharmini Williams the Council's Car Parking Manager said: "The Markets car park is now opening until 4.00am every morning on the busiest nights of the week; Wednesday through Saturday. We know that the lead up to Christmas is a very hectic and exciting time for clubs. We want people to be able to come into the City, park their cars in safety and enjoy a good night out, with no worries about leaving early for their car. 4.00am has to be lat enough (or early enough) for most people."

Sue Bolter, Peterborough's City Centre Manager said: "I was aware of the problems around the New Road area of the City and arranged a very positive meeting between the local leisure businesses and the Council. I am delighted to say that the Council has responded brilliantly to our suggestions. Not only is the Council increasing the Markets Car Park's opening hours, but they are also beefing up its security patrols. Now coming out for the night in the City is even more convenient and safe."
