The Chamber Challenge

Business | Press | News

How many of your suppliers are Cambridgeshire county-based? What percentage of your budgets are spent within the county?

The Chamber is setting a new challenge to all the County’s businesses, commercial and public sector alike, to take a careful inward look at their investment in an attempt to encourage everyone to think Invest locally in Cambridgeshire.

John Bridge OBE - chief executive of Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce

Whilst we realise that not every product or service can necessarily be sourced within Cambridgeshire it is our belief that at least 90% can! If every effort was made by every business to invest locally, this would pay huge dividends for the county as whole making additional resources and money available for all sorts of local initiatives as well as boosting the local economy, jobs market etc

The Chamber, for instance, follows this tenet to the letter by only sourcing products and services from its own membership. We still find we have a number of providers available to meet our needs and can negotiate good prices and we can feel good about ensuring that our member’s investment from their annual subscriptions are going back into the local economy.

John Bridge, Chief Executive of the Chamber comments: ‘If every business and particularly public funded bodies in Cambridgeshire could think about how they could invest in businesses around them, I am sure we would all reap the rewards. So why not take a good look at your business plans for 2005 and when planning your expenditure, think Invest locally in Cambridgeshire…. ‘
