A14 upgrade must go ahead as planned

Business | Press | News

The news that the planned A14 improvements may be downgraded has seriously alarmed the business community in the County. It is alleged that The Highways Agency is now considering a less costly option by downgrading the currently funded proposals

Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce

“Any changes to the current proposals are totally unacceptable to the whole of the Cambridgeshire business community and the upgrade must go ahead as originally planned and on time.” said John Bridge OBE, Chief Executive of the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce.

He continued: “We are astonished that any changes are even being contemplated at this late stage when all involved know of the critical importance of upgrading the A14 as planned.

"All involved must ensure every pressure is bought to bear on key decision makers to emphasise that any watering down or changes to the original funded proposals are totally unacceptable”

As we understand it, the role of The Highways Agency is to ensure the practical implementation of the current proposals as quickly and effectively as possible and most definitely not putting forward inferior alternative proposals.

The Chamber of Commerce will actively engage with all other concerned organisations to ensure the timely delivery of the only real alternative, the currently funded proposals.
