Training firm aims for growth after Peterborough move

Business | Press | News

National work-based training provider Constant Browning and Edmonds is aiming to become a UK leader after establishing modern new headquarters in Peterborough.

The company, which began operating from a domestic garage in the Lincolnshire Fens just eight years ago, tripled in size last year and now provides Modern Apprenticeship training for around 1,500 learners across the country.

“We are currently consolidating our operations,” said chief executive Abbey Dougall. “Next year we will proceed with our expansion plans. Relocating to Peterborough has given us great transport connections and the ability to recruit high quality senior managers and other staff, providing the basis for further substantial growth.

“Our call centre operations have also benefited from the expertise available from the Peterborough Call Centre Forum.”

She emphasised, though, that the company’s growth ambitions would not jeopardise its core mission to deliver training that brings prosperity to both the learners and their employers. “It’s no good being the biggest if you fail in achieving the objective of enriching learners and their organisations,” she said.

With 40 head office staff and 40 trainers operating from Manchester to the south coast, the company specialises in work-based training under contracts with local Learning and Skills Councils. The training, designed primarily for people aged under 25, leads to vocational qualifications endorsed by City and Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management.

The training currently covers areas such as customer service, retail and distributive operations, management and business administration, IT, call handling and telephone selling. In addition the company operates a call centre that undertakes business development surveys on behalf of clients.

Constant Browning and Edmonds (CBE) was founded in 1995 by husband and wife team Bernard and Irene Hendy, who have 25 years’ experience in the training industry, together with fellow director James Bennett. Within a year they had moved from their original ‘garage office’ to one room in a Georgian house in Holbeach.

As the company expanded to fill the entire house, the decision was taken to move to larger premises at Bramhall Place, Storeys Bar Road, Peterborough.

Employers wishing to arrange government funded training delivered on site with no college attendance necessary for staff under the age of 25 should contact Alcuin Arkotxa Mackenzie at Constant Browning and Edmonds on 01733 558000
