Parents turn to local company for better deal

A baby company specialising in recycling nearly new second hand products has officially been relaunched with the help of the local Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Irene Walsh.

First set up by husband and wife Kevin and Ruth in 2008 when they were based at home, donations have since gradually increased, so much so that this year they had to reconsider their work base and in June they moved to their new business unit at Courtyard Business Centre in Peterborough.

With the promise to save you money on all your baby clothing and equipment, Bestdeal4baby’s products have been proving more popular than ever in these financially challenging times. From moses baskets to high chairs and for smaller items such as changing mats, sterilisers, bottles, nappies, Bestdeal4baby has some great bargains to offer.

Ruth is thrilled with how far the business has come over the last few years – “I think it’s great that we now have a unit to trade from, for the first time we can sell and donate directly to parents in need. Anyone can come to us and purchase nearly new baby clothing and equipment at great prices. We are also now able to except much larger donations.”

As well as finding new premises there has been further change as to recognize their dedication to working for the benefit of the community Bestdeal4baby recently went from being a social enterprise company to a CIC – Community Interest Company – and has therefore become one of very few CIC’s in Peterborough.

Business advisor Sergio Ashettino from NWES (Norfolk and Waveney Enterprise Services) works on the Peterborough BEAT (Business Enterprise Advice and Training) project and has helped guide Kevin and Ruth from when they first started looking into having their own business : “Both Ruth and Kevin have been working tirelessly in getting the company onto its feet, going through the up and downs of business life, but with their determination and perseverance, they are now in a strong position in seeing this enterprise grow.“

Future plans for Bestdeal4baby include offering jobseekers and individuals looking to increase their skills Life Skills and Clait IT courses from the new premises to. For more information call 07989 631467 or visit www.bestdeal4baby.org

Peterborough BEAT is supported by the East of England Development Agency and helps people who want to set up their own business in the city. If you are trying to set up in business and need help or support call 0845 60 99 99 1.
