BCC expresses concern about the performance of Royal Mail

Business | Press | News

Reacting to the announcement that the Royal Mail has again missed all 15 of their delivery targets, the Director-General of the British Chambers of Commerce, David Frost, said:

“We are disappointed that the Royal Mail has again failed to meet any of its 15 delivery targets. The simultaneous introduction of several reforms to its delivery operations has seriously impaired this vital service. On top of that, the roll-out of Single Daily Delivery has been accompanied by much later delivery times, which create a broad range of problems for businesses.”

Mr Frost went on to set out the business priorities for improving the service that is being offered:

“Our first priority would be that the existing delivery targets are met and the problems of lost, delayed or misdelivered mail are tackled to overcome the chaos that appears to be affecting parts of the postal system.

“Our second priority is that Royal Mail should accept in principle the need for early morning delivery and work to restore this as part of its standard service. We do not accept that Royal Mail’s restructuring should be accompanied by a permanent reduction in value for money for its business customers. To allow businesses to work efficiently, first class mail should be delivered the following day, at a broadly consistent and convenient time.”
