Peterborough is Positively Online

The end of June 2000 saw the launch of a new website which is part of a campaign to promote Peterborough as a great place to live and work. To accompany the site, there is also a CD which includes some additional video sequence. The plan is to use both the website and CD to promote Peterborough as a dynamic business centre and to attract enquiries from companies who wish to relocate or expand.

Peterborough City Council and English Partnerships, the government agency for regeneration and development, have funded the site - www.peterborough-england.org.uk - and CD, jointly.

Paul Martin, City Council Chief Executive said: "All forward-looking businesses and public services understand that their future depends upon effective use of new technology and electronic communication. This new CD Rom and website underlines Peterborough's activity in this area and our determination to promote the city to a global audience".

Paul Griffiths from English Partnerships added: "The website and CD have the capability to communicate essential information about Peterborough to many more people more cost-effectively than would be the case with traditional printed brochures."

This is a significant step forward for Peterborough, and possibly the first stage in an expanding electronic communications network serving the whole of the city.  The website uses the 'Positively Peterborough' logo which was launched last year and offers a showcase of information, news, developments and helpful links to selected sites where visitors can find more information.

It has heaps of potential to draw new businesses here. Some might comment that it offers a particularly rosy view of our city, but I personally agree with the sentiment of the site - Peterborough is a great place to live and work. All too often we knock it and I've seen many a complaint on the discussion forums on peterborough.net. For once we have some positive action and it's action that has the potential to reach the rest of the world.
