Domain name - have you received an expiration notice?

Business | Articles

Police in Cambridgeshire are warning people with website domain names to be on their guard after a spate of letters claiming website names are due to expire were received.

A number of companies have received a letter stating that their domain name is due to expire and will do so if they do not pay a fee of 60.

When the companies have checked with their domain name holder, it transpires that the letter has been sent by an unknown company, with an address in Cambridge.

DC Jody Faro, who is investigating the incident, said: "We would like to speak to anyone who has received one of these letters in the last few weeks.

"We would also like to urge people not to send money to any company they are unsure about. If you have not had previous dealings with the company or do not think you owe them any money, please check before you send any money."

Anyone who may have received one of these letters or has any information regarding these letters, should contact DC Faro at Cambridgeshire Constabulary on 01480 456 111 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
